The new Women’s Super League marks the start of a new era for reigning champions Chelsea after long-time coach Emma Hayes left in the summer to begin a new adventure with the US women’s team.
Last year they barely managed enough to take the title ahead of Manchester City on goal difference, while Arsenal are once again hoping it will be a three-way battle for the WSL title. Meanwhile, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham will be hoping to make progress after further rebuilding this summer.
Two of those teams meet in the north London derby on Saturday, with Spurs in seventh place in the table before kick-off and Arsenal in fourth – but in good form since the sacking of Jonas Eidevall and under the management of Renee Slegers.
