UFC star Conor McGregor and music mogul Drake have lost combined winnings of up to $9 million (£7.1 million) after betting on Mike Tyson’s highly anticipated fight with YouTuber boxer Jake Paul. Paul made the age difference clear with a professional and confident performance against the 58-year-old.

The pair broke the record for the highest-grossing combat sports event in Texas history before touching gloves on Saturday morning after gate receipts for the fight, led by Katie Taylor’s rematch with Amanda Serrano, topped $17.8 million -$14 million topped 70,000 spectators at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Paul wanted to add the boxing icon to his list of triumphs over martial artists like Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley.

Although the odds were in his favor, he was largely unfavorable with public figures, with Canadian music star Drake betting $335,000 on Mike Tyson’s victory. But McGregor topped it all with a double, including Jon Jones defeating Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 on Sunday, which would have reportedly earned the Irishman returns in the region of $8 million.

McGregor has been known to the American influencer since he switched to boxing, but their feud remained online for now.

Tyson started strong, marching Paul around the ring, but as he tired, the 27-year-old took full advantage, landing a number of combinations throughout the eight rounds.

The veteran heavyweight marked his return to the professional stage after wearing a brace on his right knee for two decades. Although he turned 59 at the end of June, he couldn’t rule out stepping foot in the ring again.

“I don’t know, depends on the situation,” Tyson admitted. “I don’t think so (it’s the last time). Maybe his brother (fighting Logan Paul).”
