“T-Mobile is closely monitoring this industry-wide attack,” a company spokesman said in an emailed statement Saturday. “We have not seen any significant impacts to T-Mobile systems or data and have no evidence of impacts or exfiltration of customer data that others may have experienced.” We will continue to monitor this closely and work with industry colleagues and relevant authorities. “
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Bellevue, Washington-based T-Mobile’s systems were also hacked.
U.S. officials said this week that state-sponsored Chinese hackers conducted a “comprehensive and significant cyber espionage campaign” in which they penetrated several telecommunications companies. The hackers infiltrated the networks to steal call records from customers and compromise the communications of a “limited number” of people in government and politics, officials said.
The FBI declined to comment on the T-Mobile hack, while the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency did not respond to a request for comment outside regular business hours.
China has “no interest in interfering in other countries’ internal affairs through cyberspace,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Thursday.
AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. were among the companies that experienced breaches over several months, the Journal reported last month. The New York Times had reported that the hackers may have targeted the phones of Donald Trump, JD Vance and Trump family members, as well as members of Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign team and others.
